Once the board behind your kitchen and wardrobes is sorted, the next decision is the shutter finish — the surface you see and touch every day. Acrylic and laminate are the two most common choices in Hyderabad homes. Here is how they really compare.
## Laminate
Laminate is a thin decorative layer pressed onto the board. It is the workhorse finish, and for good reason:
- **Look:** available in essentially every colour, wood-grain and texture, in matte or gloss. - **Durability:** hard-wearing, scratch-resistant and forgiving of daily knocks. - **Cleaning:** wipes down easily; textured finishes hide fingerprints well. - **Cost:** the most economical mainstream finish.
The trade-off is at the edges and joints, where laminate can show a seam, and very high-gloss laminates do not reach the mirror-like depth of acrylic.
## Acrylic
Acrylic is a high-gloss surface that gives a rich, reflective, almost glass-like depth:
- **Look:** premium, seamless and vivid — especially in bold or deep colours. - **Durability:** the surface is tough, though high-gloss shows fine scratches more than matte. - **Cleaning:** wipes clean easily, but fingerprints and smudges show on gloss. - **Cost:** noticeably higher than laminate.
## How to choose
Think about the room and how it is used:
- **Kitchen:** a gloss acrylic looks stunning but shows every fingerprint; many families prefer a matte or textured laminate on the busy lower units and save gloss for a feature. - **Wardrobes:** acrylic on a master-bedroom wardrobe is a lovely upgrade; laminate elsewhere keeps the budget sane. - **Whole home on a budget:** a good laminate throughout, with one or two acrylic or veneer features, reads richer than stretching acrylic everywhere and running out of budget for lighting.
