"What style do you want?" can be a paralysing question. Most people know what they like when they see it but struggle to name it. Here is a plain guide to the styles we work in most, and how to tell which one is really you.
## Warm minimal
Minimalism gone cosy. Clean lines and uncluttered surfaces, but in warm woods, soft neutrals and textured fabrics rather than cold white boxes. If you like calm, order and "less but better," this is likely your style. It also photographs beautifully and ages well.
## Japandi
A blend of Japanese simplicity and Scandinavian function. Low, honest furniture, natural materials, muted earthy colours and a deep respect for empty space. Japandi suits people who want a home that feels serene and grounded, and who prefer craft and texture over shine.
## Scandinavian
Light, airy and practical. Pale woods, white and grey palettes, functional furniture and lots of natural light. Cheerful without being loud, and forgiving on a budget because it leans on simplicity. Great for smaller homes that need to feel bigger and brighter.
## Contemporary luxe
The current premium look: rich veneers, fluted and panelled surfaces, natural stone, brass or black-metal accents and layered, dramatic lighting. It feels hotel-like and considered. Best when the budget can support quality materials, because luxe done cheaply looks like neither.
## Modern classic
Timeless elegance with a modern hand — restrained mouldings, symmetry, a refined palette and quality detailing, without going full traditional. Suits people who want their home to feel established and enduring rather than trend-led.
## Coastal calm & earthy modern
Softer, nature-led palettes — sandy neutrals, blues and greens, natural textures, rattan and light woods. Relaxed and easy to live in, and lovely in homes with good light and views.
## How to actually choose
Do not start from the label — start from how you want the room to feel and how you live. A few honest questions help:
- Do you want the home to feel calm and pared-back, or rich and layered? - Are you tidy by nature, or do you need the design to hide everyday clutter? - What is the light like — bright rooms carry pale palettes; darker rooms may need warmth. - What is the budget? Some styles depend on premium materials to work.
