What built-in wardrobes cost in Hyderabad, how sliding and openable compare, and which finishes are worth paying for.
A wardrobe is bought once and lived with for a decade, so it is worth understanding what drives the price before you sign off on one. Here is how wardrobe pricing works in Hyderabad, and where it is worth spending.
## How wardrobes are priced
Built-in wardrobes are usually priced per square foot of the wardrobe's face (width × height). As a broad guide, a laminate-finish wardrobe on BWR plywood runs roughly ₹1,100–1,600 per sq ft in Hyderabad. Move to acrylic or lacquered-glass shutters, or premium internals, and the rate rises from there.
That means a standard 7 ft × 8 ft wardrobe — around 56 sq ft — commonly lands somewhere between ₹70,000 and ₹1.1 lakh depending on finish and internals.
## Sliding vs openable
- **Openable (hinged)** shutters cost a little less, let you see the whole interior at once, and give slightly more usable internal depth. They need clearance to swing open. - **Sliding** doors cost a bit more because of the channel system, and you only ever see half the wardrobe at a time — but they need no swing clearance, which makes them ideal for narrow rooms or a wardrobe placed opposite a bed.
If floor space is tight, sliding usually wins. Otherwise openable gives more flexibility for the money.
## The finish decides the price
The carcass should be BWR plywood almost regardless of budget — it is stable, screw-friendly and moisture-resistant. What changes the price is the shutter:
- **Laminate** — hard-wearing, endless designs, most economical. - **Membrane** — seamless, moulded look; softer surface. - **Acrylic** — high-gloss, premium, wipes clean; higher cost. - **Lacquered glass** — the most premium look, reflective and easy to clean. - **PU / lacquer** — rich, paint-like finish, top of the range.
## Where to spend and where not to
Spend on good hardware — soft-close hinges, anti-sag mechanisms and quality channels are what you touch every day, and cheap hardware fails first. Spend on internals that match how you actually store things: hanging feet, drawers, a locker, accessory pull-outs.
Save on shutter finish if the budget is tight — a well-built laminate wardrobe outlasts a poorly built acrylic one. You can always specify a premium finish on the master bedroom and laminate elsewhere.
